OUR MISSION

Project Ignite is a student-led volunteer organization that aims to combat educational inequality by supporting underserved schools in the Fresno area. Please support us by donating to our current initiative to provide wireless internet access to students with a goal of $15K - www.gofundme.com/f/educational-resources-for-westside-elementary.

Our STORY

Ananya Vinay, Clovis Unified student and 2017 winner of the 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee, has a passion for learning and giving back to her community. In 2019, this passion inspired her to organize Project Ignite with contributions designated to funding innovative opportunities that engage students in learning and mastering essential skills in language arts and STEM. Now in its fourth year Project Ignite has provided much-needed educational resources to Westside Elementary, a rural district located in the west part of Fresno County. These resources include Kindles, library books and electronic resources. Project Ignite also supports students through its mentoring program offering academic support to a group of Fresno County students.

Reading

All it takes is one compelling book to shape students into readers. Through our weekly classes, we hope to help students find a book they love and realize the magic of reading and creating stories.

Support

We aim to provide resources like digital libraries, to students in undeserved schools while inspiring students to explore their curiosity.  Our goal is to eventually have a community where school quality may not rely so much on the five digits of a zip code.

Coding

Our team teaches students how to use Scratch to create whatever is in their imagination. Our goal is to inspire them to think creatively about the power of technology to change the world.

Our Work

Equal educational opportunity has numerous facets; however, it is much harder to achieve without access to fundamental resources. We aim to provide these resources, like digital libraries, to students in underserved schools while inspiring students to explore their curiosity.  We teach students in undeserved schools coding weekly. Another part of the project is reading to the students weekly and discussing the books to ignite a love of reading and words.

"Until we reach equality in education, we can't reach equality in the larger society"
